Obtaining a Danish Passport

Obtaining a Danish passport

From 1 January 2012 Denmark has introduced new biometric passports. This means that the Danish Consulates in New Zealand cannot accept applications for new passports or renewal of passports after this date. They can, however, issue emergency passports and extend the validity of existing passports.

Applications for new passports or renewal of existing passports

Applications for these must now be made to a Danish representation authorised to receive applications. The nearest Danish representations that can accept applications are the Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate-General in Sydney.

To obtain information about the application process, and lists of fees and countries with Danish representations that are able to accept applications, please click here.

Applications for emergency passports

These can still be issued at the Danish Consulates in New Zealand. Please make an appointment with the nearest Consulate. For contact details please click here.

Extension of expired passports

Passports that have been expired for less than 3 months, can be extended for up to 12 months. Please make an appointment with the nearest Danish Consulate. For contact details, please click here.

Your personal responsibility

It is your responsibility, when using an emergency passport, or a passport that has been extended, to ensure that any visas required have been placed in your emergency/extended passport and that the countries you intend to travel to accept emergency/extended passports.
